As most of you know, African Heritage has had a long association with Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher of African Ceremonies. Their last double volume opus, AFRICAN CEREMONIES, was launched at the millennium, during two nights over the pool at the Nairobi Serena Hotel, followed by a tour involving 23 Kenyan hotels along the coast of Kenya. As a result, AFRICAN CEREMONIES reached the bestseller list, remarkable for this kind of book.
Over the past 40 years, I have launched almost all of Carol and Angela’s 16 books – an amazing lifetime body of work – in Nairobi, as well as organizing book launches in Paris and California.
Thus for their upcoming and perhaps their last magnificent double volume book, AFRICAN TWILIGHT on the Vanishing Rituals and Ceremonies of Africa, I will join them with the famous African Heritage Renaissance Show that has traveled the world with its troupe of models, dancers, musicians, stilt walkers, acrobats, chefs, and hairdressers displaying collections of the Vanishing Textiles of Africa, one of Africa’s greatest gifts to the world of Art.
Such an undertaking takes time, dedication, passion and money. Having staged African Heritage Nights in Nairobi for over 3 decades and toured the world with this show, it will be a fitting tribute to the astounding work by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher – another great gift to the World of Art and Humanity.
Below are photos from Carol and Angela opening their magnificent exhibition at BOWERS MUSEUM in Santa Ana, California, the first of many exhibitions and lectures to follow before they get to Nairobi for the grand finale in October of 2019.
